  1. Files (Downloading/Uploading) and the Tasks Window

  3. The Files Window
  4.  
  5. The files window can be accessed by clicking the "Files" button on the toolbar, or by choosing "Show Files" from the Hotline menu. When this button is clicked, you will get a listing of the main directory of files on the server.

  29. Double-click a folder in the list to open it.  You can hold down the Option key to open the contents of that folder in the current files window (to minimize the number of open windows).

  31. Click the blue "i" button to get info on a file/folder. This will tell you information about it, and Finder comments (if it has any). These usually contain a description of the file/folder. Click the scroll button to scroll the comments.

  34. Downloading Files

Files can be downloaded by double-clicking the line of the file to be downloaded. The download task will be displayed in the Tasks window (see below). If you want to queue the download (it will start after your previous download is finished), hold down Shift and click the download button (arrow pointing down).

  38. You can also download by dragging a file from a files list into a folder (or desktop) in the finder.

  41. Uploading Files

  43. Depending on the setup of a particular server, files might only be uploadable to certain folders. If this is the case, try to upload to a folder with "Upload" or "Drop Box" in its name, also labeled with a folder icon under a yellow downward arrow.

To upload a file, click the button with the arrow pointing upward. A standard file dialog box will appear. Select the file you wish to upload. Once you have done this, a progress bar will appear in the tasks window (see below).  If you wish to queue an upload (it will start after your previous download/upload is finished) then hold down Shift while clicking the Upload button.

  47. You can also upload by dragging a file from the finder into a files window.

  50. Drop Boxes

  52. Drop boxes are folders to which you can upload, but not see the contents of. The only files which are visible in Drop Boxes are partially uploaded files (so they may be resumed).

  55. Icons

For the most part, icons are the same in Hotline as in the Finder, however, custom icons do not displayed. For instance, an application's icon will not show up, but it will have a generic application icon. These are the basic types of icons: Folder, Upload Folder (downward arrow), Stuffit Archive (blue file logo), Application (generic), Hotline Document (H on a document), Text File (Generic SimpleText icon), Partial File (jagged half of a document icon), Broken Alias (? on a document, meaning the target of the alias cannot be found).

  60. The Tasks Window

  62. The tasks window displays the current tasks between your Client and the Server with which you are connected. Progress bars appear for file transfer, sending of personal messages, and other functions. When transferring files, these progress bars will display statistics on speeds also.

  80. When you queue a download, it appears here. If you want to start it, click on the progress bar for it and then click the traffic light "go" button. If you want to abort a task, click the red "no" button.
